We stand for quality and patient orientation
We, the heart clinic Ulm Dr. Haerer and Partner, are an invasive cardiological-angiological clinic, which offers diagnosis and treatment for cardiovascular diseases. Our medical services encompass high-quality medicine with a comprehensive service combined with high cost-effectiveness.
Twelve qualified specialists, additional medical assistants and more than 55 medical specialists form the core staff of our state-of-the-art clinic. Thus we are best prepared for optimal diagnosis, therapy and intensive care of our outpatient as well as inpatient treated patients.
We offer our patients sustainable quality
Ensuring high quality for our patients is the focus of our work. In doing so, we are guided by the general quality standards in cardiology, for which we are committed. For us, quality also includes pre-care and follow-up care, which is why we aim to further improve co-operation with family doctors within the framework of quality networks. For us, the training and further education of our assigning physicians is centered on lectures, seminars, workshops, which we have designed. In doing so, we create treatment standards and secure them.
Our heart clinic is patient-oriented
We see the patient as a customer and at the same time as a partner. Therefore, we understand our work as a patient service and offer a high level of service in addition to our medical services. This includes speedy appointment, short waiting times, friendliness of the staff and continuous care by the same doctor, to make the stay in our practice as pleasant as possible. Cardiac emergencies are always accepted on the same day.
Continuous improvement and goals
To ensure continuous improvement, we regularly set common goals and therefore integrate every improvement proposal into our organization.
Integrity is a high value for us
We commit ourselves to the observance of the laws and regulations regarding the settlement of our services. We refuse to accept donations and gifts from our suppliers, which exceed the legally permissible level.
The BNK-certification “Kardiologische Qualitätpraxis®” guarantees heart patients a special medical treatment at the highest level.
Quality seal for the Heart Clinic of Ulm by the Federal Association of Cardiologists, e.V.
Due to the requirements laid down in the examination regulations and the confirmation by an external audit, Heart Clinic Ulm was certified to be a specialist practice and awarded the title “Cardiological Quality Practice”. Cardiovascular disorders are by far the most common cause of death in the Western world. Mortality rates increase with growing age; High-quality cardiac care is therefore becoming more and more important especially in aging societies such as the German market.
To date, however, cardiac patients lack the opportunity to form an objective judgment on the professional competence of a cardiologist, as well as on the quality of treatment, practice procedures and equipment. For this reason, the Federal Association of Discontinued Cardiologists (BNK) has created a seal of quality with the “Kardiologische Qualitätpraxis®”
Which provides the patient with reliable guidance.
More than just a clinic! Endoprothetics Spine Center Hand Surgery Plastic Surgery
Clinic for Endoprosthetics, General Orthopedics and Rheumatism Orthopedics
Our main focus is on minimally invasive endoprosthetics, complex endoprosthetics, joint-supported hip surgery and foot surgery. Using the minimally invasive surgical method, the surgeon employs the implant using smaller cuts and weaving techniques. As a reference center for replacement endoprosthetics, we use modular, cementless implants. The modularity of these revision implants allows the individual adaptation of the prosthesis fixation and the implant to the respective particular bone and soft tissue situation.
In the following, we hope to provide you with a comprehensive insight into our field of expertise and valuable information. For further questions we are happy to help you.
Prof. Dr. med. Bernd Fink
medical director
Spine center
The department covers the entire spectrum of spinal column surgery, anatomically extending from the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine to the cervical vertebral column, and clinically with the detection of all acute and chronic diseases such as deformities (scoliosis, kyphosis), degenerative diseases (intervertebral disc injuries, intervertebral disc prostheses , Spinal canal stenoses, de novo scoliosis), accidental vertebral fractures and instabilities, inflammations (vertebral exacerbations, rheumatism) and tumor diseases. The Center is one of the few institutions of its kind in the Federal Republic, which offers the entire range of spinal column surgery at a high level and also in the context of emergency care at all times.
At present, about 2,000 spine operations are carried out every year and 8,000 patients are treated on an outpatient basis. Our medical team consists of two chief physicians, five senior physicians and eight medical assistants.

Vorsprung durch Qualität und über 25 Jahre Erfahrung
Clinic for Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery
Professor Mang’s Bodenseeklinik – Europe’s largest Clinic for Cosmetic Surgery
Prof. Mang and his Team!
Scope of plastic and aesthetic surgery:
Nose Plastic Surgery
General:
A nose plastic surgery can be carried out on patients as of 14 years of age and on any shape of nose (crooked nose, nose with dorsal hump, long nose, “saddle“ nose). The ideal nose has a straight dorsal bone from bridge to tip that tilts slightly upward; the angle between upper lip and nose has 110 degrees (“Mang Nose“). Rhinoplasty is one the most complicated plastic surgeries and requires a skilled and highly-experienced surgeon.
Technique:
The procedure is carried out through the nostrils, thus precluding visible scars from remaining. By using of the Mang-tumescent-technique no notable bruising and swelling occurs. Profile plastic surgery achieves an harmonious blending of facial features with nose and chin correction. In this procedure the cartilage and bone removed from a dorsal hump is re-implanted and modelled into the chin through a small incision. On the day before surgery, using photographs, the whole procedure will be carefully discussed once again with the patient.
Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid Correction for a vital look
General:
Eylid Correction is performed on patients as of 30 years of age for the removal of excess skin in the upper- and lower eyelid areas, as well as the removal of puffy bags beneath the eyes.
Upper eyelid surgery (drooping eyelid surgery):
This procedure is a simple and long-lasting correction. The sagging skin is removed as well as the fatty tissue.
Lower eyelid surgery (eye bag removal):
This procedure is one of the most frequent performed on men over 50. A small incision is made on the lower edge of the eyelid just below the lashes. The skin is carefully peeled back to expose the fatty tissue filled with lymph liquid which is then removed. Finally, excess skin is very carefully resected and the wound closed by suturing.
Breast Plastic Surgery
Breast Surgery at the highest level
General:
Breast plastic surgery can be carried out on patients from the age of 18. During recent years the Bodenseeklinik applies a standardised OP technique for breast lifting, breast reduction as well as enlargements with implants.
By using best implant material and a highly qualified and experienced OP team risks are kept at a minimum. In the Bodenseeklinik only breast implants of the highest quality whose safety and reliability have been proved over decades are used.
Technique:
We prefer to make a small incision under the breast crease, which is hardly visible after a good healing . Through this opening the implant can be quickly inserted without risk between muscle and mammary gland. If so desired, the implant can of course be inserted though the armpit or a nipple incision can be made.
On sagging breasts we can also apply a technique which necesssitates only a small incision and leaves as little scarring as possible. This procedure involves an incision around and beneath the nipple giving access to the tissue to be reduced, tightened and placed in the ideal position.
Facelifting Surgery
General:
From the age of 40 onwards wrinkles begin to form around the face and neck. A facelifting surgery can be performed under general anaesthetic or in half-sedation.
Technique:
With a three-phase lift using Professor Mang’s technique incisions can be individually extended according to the patient’s age and condition of the skin. With the new operational technique in tumescence hardly any swelling or bruising is expected and usually no visible scarring remains. By using an elegant tightening technique the individuality of the facial contours is ensured. After the facelifting surgery the patient has a more youthful and fresh appearance but does not look „operated“.
Ear Pinning
General:
Otoplasty (ear pinning) can be performed on patients from the age of 6 years either under local anaesthetic, or, if desired, with general anaesthetic. The procedure takes 20 minutes per side.
Technique:
The ear pinning involves a small incision at the back of the ear. The protruding cartilage is removed and by skilful sculpting of the cartilage the outer ear reshaped. After discreet removal of surplus cartilage and skin, the wound is cosmetically sealed.
Liposuction
Various applications of liposuction for each problem area
General:
A liposuction can be performed on patients from 16 years of age. The following „problem areas“ can be treated: double-chin, upper arms, breast, abdomen, hips, buttocks, back, knees, „Jodphur thighs“, outer- and inner thigh areas, calves, ankles.
Technique:
The liposuction is performed under local anaesthetic using tumescent anaesthesia. Surgery takes approximately 30 minutes per area treated and achieves excellent results.
The new, so-called “Super Wet“ technique greatly improves results and reduces risks. Up to six liters of saline solution are infused into the problem areas, causing the fat in the cells to liquefy so that is can then be drawn off through a fine (2-3 mm) cannula or hollow tube without causing bruising, swelling or rippling. An additional advantage is the positive affect the treatment has on cellulitis. The minute stitches are not sewn but covered with surgical tape and with normal healing do not leave any scars.
Hair Transplantation
General:
Either genetically or through the effect of male hormones, approximately 50 per cent of the male population suffer sooner or later from damage to certain hair roots and thus to the typical male loss of hair. Some hair roots are not sensitive to the male hormone and therefore do not fall out. This knowledge is used in hair transplantation.
New-age hair grafting achieves amazing results without scarring and is in effect a re-distribution of healthy hair follicles, which are resistent to male hormones, from the hair fringe (maskulinum) or permanent hair zone at the back of the head, to the balding areas. With the correct surgical technique, transplanted hair follicles never fall out again.
Technique:
A hair transplant is performed under local anaesthetic and is virtually free from pain and risk. The procedure involves excising a narrow strip of scalp from the permanent hair zone at the back of the head containing the hair follicles to be treated for transplanting. The resulting incision is closed with fine stitches leaving a virtually undetecable scar, covered with hair growth. Thereafter, also under local anaesthetic, the tiny follicular unit grafts are grafted into fine openings in the scalp.
Injected Implants – Anti-Aging Treatments
Various Wrinkle Treatments for a youthful look
General:
The Bodenseeklinik uses only implants out of biological or endogenous material. As far as injections for facial lines and wrinkles are concerned, Prof. Dr. Mang is regarded as a pioneer in this area. At the beginning of the ’eighties it was Prof. Mang who first introduced the collagen injection from the USA into Germany. This method has proved itself effective throughout the world. Hyaluronic acid can be injected in the same way as collagen products.
Injections are made just under the skin’s surface (intracutan) into the troublesome skin area of the face. Afterwards facial wrinkles disappear quickly.
Botox injections, which are applied for the removel of deep brow creases and frown lines, achieve good results by temporarily preventing the muscles from contracting. Botulinum toxin has been used in medicine for many years and results in a smoother and tighter brow and eye area.
A skin analysis determines which implant should be used for which skin type. A decision is made to inject either collagen, hyaluron acid, botox or endogenous fat. This practice is based on the assumption, of course, that the operating surgeon is highly experienced in this field. Each therapy must be adjusted to the patient’s individual requirements and physical characteristics.
Great results can be achieved with autologous fat injection – or lipotransfer, whereby the patient’s own fat cells are injected. The ingenuity of this method is that the removal of fat cells, the preparation and the injecting of the fat can now be carried out in such a gentle manner so as not to damage the cells and prevent them from subsequently dissolving after a short time.
Technique:
With treatment using one’s own fat, fat cells are extracted from problem zones, prepared in a special process and re-injected into the facial area by micro-injection. Thereby the aging process can be stopped. The fat cells are injected into different levels of the face to allow the skin’s own connective tissue cells to form. Prof. Dr. Mang has termed this procedure “Space Lift“.
Skin Tightening Surgery
Treatments for firmer skin
General:
Skin tightening surgery involves the lifting of skin around the tummy, thighs and upper arms. The incisions are made after precise measuring of the skin area to be operated and are placed in a way that with good healing almost no visible scars remain. Very good and long-lasting results can thus be obtained.
Technique:
A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is often performed after significant weight loss when the skin in the abdominal area has become slack or after pregnancies in patients of 40 plus.
Loose and sagging skin around the upper arms and thighs usually occurs in later years, after the age of 55.
Skin tightening procedures of these areas are often performed in women who want to feel good again wearing sleeveless tops and dresses and bathing suits. Quite often aging in these areas can also be hereditary if the skin is impaired by cellulitis. All tightening procedures are standard and technically not complex since they deal with large-scale skin tightening or skin removal. With a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) an incision is made along the bikini-line, the skin elevated to the rib margin, the naval left in position and finally the surplus skin is removed and the wound cosmetically sealed.
The same procedure is applied to lift the thighs and upper arms (brachioplasty). Here, too, surplus skin is tightened after careful preparation and cosmetically sealed.
Dermabrasion and Chemical Peeling
General:
Recommended for the treatment of scars and fine wrinkles, particularly around the upper lip and mouth in patients of 30 and over. This treatment is also recommended for patients of 18 and over troubled with skin impurities, enlarged pores or acne. Only an experienced surgeon can decide whether a chemical peeling, dermabrasion or laser peeling is the most suitable treatment for a particular skin type.
Dermabrasion:
Dermabrasion is carried out with a high-speed diamond-tipped abrasion head or burr that scrapes away the skin surface. Treatment is performed under local anaesthetic and on an outpatient basis. After meticulous cleansing, the skin to be treated is stretched and tightened by hand and the abrasion carried out.
Chemical Peeling:
Chemical Peeling can be divided into three levels: for minor peels requiring a mild exfoliating action on more superficial wrinkles glycolic acid is used, for a medium depth peel trichloracetic acid (TCA) and deep skin peeling is carried out with phenol substances. The chemical peeling with the most effective results and the minimum side-effects is the trichloracetic acid peeling (30-40%).
Laser Treatment – Skin Resurfacing
Various Laser Treatsments for a pure and youthful skin
General:
Prof. Dr. Mang has been concerned with laser treatments for over twenty years. In the Bodenseeklinik’s laser center the best state-of-the-art laser equipment available.
This technology can remove couperose and stawberry haemangiomas, treats birthmarks and spider veins on the legs as well as wrinkles and scars in facial areas.
Laser Treatment Technique:
Treatments with a laser are mostly performed under local anaesthetic. If the whole face is to be ’resurfaced’ treatment can also be carried out under general anaesthetic. In this case the patient should plan a subsequent four-day inpatient hospitalization. Laser therapy often tends to be overrated in the media. When applied seriously the laser has only limited therapeutic possibilities.
In the Bodenseeklinik we have achieved good results in the treatment of facial couperose and spider veins on the legs. Furthermore, laser treatment of strawberry haemangiomas, acne and general fine wrinkling in areas around the mouth, eyelids and face has been most effective.
